Golf Tournament Allegedly Benefiting Marietta Fire Department is Bogus, Cops Say

Cobb County police are reminding philanthropists to do their homework regarding causes they plan to give money to after a supposed golf tournament benefiting the Marietta Fire Department turned out to be a sham, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The AJC spoke to police, who said that the flyer for the “10th Annual City of Marietta Firefighters Golf Classic” claims that proceeds from the event will benefit the “Firefighters Death and Disability Fund.”

However, police spoke with the Marietta Fire Department itself and learned that the department had no idea that the event was being planned, nor did they sanction it.
