Harrison Alum Selected in MLB Draft
Jamal Austin, a 2008 graduate of Harrison High School, was taken by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.

Kennesaw native, and current outfielder at the University of Alabama – Birmingham Jamal Austin was selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday by the Seattle Mariners. He was taken in the 13th round and was the 393rd player taken overall.
Austin graduated from three years ago and has been a starter ever since at UAB.
Austin led his team this season with a .351 batting average also stole 26 bases to lead the team. Austin’s 26 stolen bases also led Conference-USA and his batting average ranked him fourth in the conference.

During his 3-year career Austin batted .339 and stole 74 bases, which ranks him fourth all time in Conference-USA play.
Tuesday marks the second time Austin was selected in the MLB Draft. He was taken in the 50th round by the Houston Astros in the 2008 draft, but decided to attend UAB instead.
