North Cobb American Legion Post 304 Donates funds for training of PTSD/TBI Service Dogs for veterans
CombatingPTSD Donation for Service Dog training

North Cobb American Legion Post 304 presented Sharon Callan, Owner of PawsBeGood, Inc., Talking Rock, GA with a donation of $3,351 for the initial veterinary care and training for a PTSD/TBI Service Dog. Post 304 annually raises funds for this alternative canine therapy through the Post 304 Annual CombatingPTSD motorcycle “Poker Run” fund raiser and other events. Since 2015, Post 304 has donated $10,351 for the training of two (2) PTSD/TBI Service Dogs by PawsBeGood, Inc.
Sharon introduced veteran Scott Siegel and Lucy to the Post 304 membership at the Post 304 monthly meeting.
Scott is a U.S. Air Force veteran, February 1980 until July 1990. Lucy is a 3 1/2 year old Catahoula/Lab mix. Lucy was adopted by Scott and his wife from the Rome/Floyd County Humane Society in 2013. After his diagnosis, Scott reached out to Sharon to train Lucy as his Service Dog. Scott and Lucy completed the Canine Good Citizen training earlier this year and in November completed the Public Access training. Both trainings are required to be Service Dog.

Scott commented “She goes with me everywhere from grocery shopping to doctor’s appointments. When I first began training with Lucy, my wife was skeptical and thought others would see me with a Service Dog and think I was somehow weaker or handicapped because of it. Exactly the opposite is true. Having Lucy with me allows me to go places and do things I may have never been able to do before. Thank you Post 304 for your generous donations and for caring for veterans with PTSD/TBI so we may have Service Dogs to help us with our struggles.”
Sharon commented “Training these dogs to help veterans is a passion of mine. Properly trained Service Dogs do make a difference in the lives of these veterans. Also, we are saving the lives of these “rescue” animals and giving them a new purpose in life. North Cobb Post 304 has been a great partner in making it possible for us to do more for veterans suffering with PTSD/TBI.”
