Mr. John T. Godwin, of Ellijay, GA, died Thursday, October 24, 2013. Mr. Godwin was born November 7, 1920, in Birmingham, AL, and was raised in Homestead, FL. Mr. Godwin was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran who received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 4 Bronze Stars for Northern Solomons, Bismarck-Archipelago, New Guinea, and Philippine Island Campaigns, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Bronze Star. He also received an Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and a Presidential Citation. Mr. Godwin also retired from DuPont, in S. Augusta, SC., after 33 years of service. Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his wife of 56 yrs, Bennie Mae Lewis Godwin. He is survived by his nieces, Louise Godwin, Murphy, NC, Mary Jones, Homestead, FL, Julie West, Ruckersville, VA, Patricia Godwin, S. Miami, FL, Deborah Godwin, St. Augustine, FL and Diane Van Wombeck, Homestead, FL, nephew Thomas Godwin, Homestead, FL and 39 great-nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held on November 4, 2013, 1:30 PM, at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, in N. Augusta, SC. A special tribute will be held by the Military Patriot Guard, as well.
