One Person Shot in "Drug-Related" Altercation

The incident occurred Friday evening in Cherokee County near Acworth; the victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent drug-related incident that left one person with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Deputies with the agency were dispatched to a shots fired call at the Gregory Lane Apartments off Bells Ferry Road near Acworth around 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24.

Deputies determined “some type of altercation between multiple persons had occurred that resulted in one person being shot in the leg,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.

The victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was treated for a superficial gunshot wound and released from WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

Investigators are interviewing multiple people involved in the incident, “which appears to be drug-related,” Baker stated.

No charges have been filed, as the investigation is ongoing.
