Sunbrook Academy Unveils the "Double Take" Program
Parents will pledge to do a "double take" to make sure that they nor anyone else has left their children in a car.

Staff Report
It’s with great enthusiasm that Sunbrook Academy introduces a new notification system that is proving to be a necessity as well as a method to help ensure the safety of every child. With far too many stories in the news about children being left behind and left in locked vehicles, it has become increasingly important for us to get involved and do our part for your children.
Beginning Monday Sept 29th we will be administering an effort to eliminate children being left inside of locked cars. Our “Double Take” program is going to remind parents to not only “Double Take” in cars as they exit them, but to also “Double Take” in other cars as you walk past. Each of our 6 schools city-wide is asking every parent to sign a “PLEDGE” that you are committed to keeping our children safe by taking a “Double Take.”

In addition to taking a Double Take around our cars, every school will be taking a Double Take of the attendance and contacting the parents of each student not in attendance. Each morning the director of the school will generate a list of any students that has not checked in for the day. Then the will reach out to the parents to make sure everything is fine. Over the next year, we are prepared to make thousands of phone calls and hear “He didn’t feel good, so I kept him home” – But even if only one person benefits from the notification, the program is well worth it.
This is yet another method of communication that we are dedicated to adhering to in efforts to save a child as well as to educate, inform and remind parents to never leave their child in an unattended car.
