3 Contested Races Will Be On Alpharetta Special Election Ballot

The city's special election to fill the office of mayor and City Council Posts 3 and 4 seats will be held Tuesday, May 22.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Qualifying has wrapped up in Alpharetta, and all three seats up for grabs will be contested races in the city's May 22 special election.

Former City Council members Jim Gilvin and Chris Owens are running to become Alpharetta's next mayor. Both men resigned from their Council seats to pursue the office of mayor, which also became vacant when David Belle Isle stepped down to run for Secretary of State (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. For the City Council Post 3 seat, residents will choose between Katie Harding and Karen Richard while the Post 4 race will be between John Hipes and Clifford Martin. Mayor Pro Tem Donald Mitchell and Council members Jason Binder, Dan Merkel and Ben Burnett are currently serving on the Council.
