6th District Race: New Voter Registration Deadline Is May 21

The contentious runoff between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel for the Congressional seat will be held June 20.

ATLANTA, GA -- Following last week's decision by the United States District Court to reopen voter registration in the hotly contested race to fill Georgia's 6th Congressional District, a new deadline to sign up to vote has been set for citizens wishing to cast ballots.

The new deadline to register vote in the special election runoff is now Sunday, May 21, the Georgia Secretary of State's Office said.

Early voting in the runoff will kick off Tuesday, May 30 and end Friday, June 16. Georgia's 6th Congressional District encompasses all of North Fulton County, and includes parts of east Cobb and DeKalb counties.

Judge Timothy Batten of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia issued the injunction Thursday, allowing voters who had not registered 90 days before the June 20 runoff to do so.

In north Fulton, voters can vote ahead of the June 20 special election runoff at the following locations:

  • Alpharetta Library, 10 Park Plaza, Alpharetta
  • East Roswell Branch Library, 2301 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell
  • Milton Library, 855 Mayfield Road, Milton
  • North Fulton Service Center, 7741 Roswell Road, Room 232, Sandy Springs
  • Ocee Library, 5090 Abbotts Bridge Road, Johns Creek
  • Roswell Branch Library, 115 Norcross Street, Roswell

Early voting began Saturday, May 6 at the North Fulton Service Center in the special election runoff for the Georgia Senate District 32 seat and will wrap up Friday, May 12.

As a result of action taken May 3 by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, polls will remain open on each day (except Sundays) of early voting from 8:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. for both special runoff elections. Unofficial results will be available on our website after polls close.
