A “THANK YOU” THAT LASTS

Gifts come in many forms – from gift cards and baskets, to the sharing of a favorite recipe or business referral.   While we may not always realize their impact, the best gifts are often those which simply involve a bit of time and attention.  Generally speaking, there’s a reason that the people in our lives who remember to commemorate special dates with thoughtful notes and cards, are also the ones who we consider to be the most caring.

While there is certainly an art to expressing your gratitude, the majority of it begins with simply saying “thank you.”   In today’s world, it should come as no surprise that we often utilize technology to help us share our gratitude through things like email and Facebook; however, while it has become more acceptable to use those venues, there is simply no substitute for a hand-written thank you.  To put this idea into perspective, ask yourself: “When was the last time I printed out an appreciative email or Facebook post to place in a keepsake box?”  Probably never.

Therefore, it’s important to remember that sending a simple handwritten thank you letter on a pretty piece of stationery or notecard can really make a difference when it comes to your personal and business life.

When composing a thank you note, there are three things that it should include:

1.) Mention the gift by name (or reference what it is)

2.) Acknowledge the effort that the gift-giver put in to acquiring the gift.

3.) Let the giver know how you intend to use the gift.

With the beginning of the New Year, now is the perfect time to send out those thank you notes for all that the holiday season has brought. Perhaps we don’t often spend enough time showing our gratitude, but remember that it is NEVER TOO LATE to thank someone.   The gesture may only take a moment, but the sentiment will last a long, long time.
