Alpharetta Approves Location For New Parking Deck

The cost, timeline and design of the new structure will be hashed out in the new future.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- It appears the city of Alpharetta now has an idea of where to build another parking deck.

City staff members presented the proposed westside parking deck to Council members at the Aug. 22 meeting, and those elected officials adopted site as presented.

The deck, currently proposed at four stories and include 390 spaces, will be situated behind buildings along Milton Avenue between Roswell and Old Roswell streets.

Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said the elevations, configuration and timelines presented to the council were just for informational purposes, and have not been finalized or approved.

"We will continue to work on design, and it is our understanding that the final conceptual design is to be brought back to Council for consideration in the very near future," he added.

Community Development Director Kathi Cook said the first level would be accessible underground off Roswell Street while the second level would be accessible from Old Roswell Street.

Both levels, she added, would have pedestrian access. Third and fourth levels which would be accessible beside La Casa Italian Grill restaurant, Cook stated.

The height of the structure would be about 35 feet on the eastern side and 25 feet along the western side of the deck from the Old Roswell Street view.

Cook said a meeting with about 20 to 30 downtown business and property owners did not generate any negative feedback about the location. One thing they asked the city to consider is timing, "to make sure that we had temporary parking installed so...their customers would have a place to park," she added.

"They thought that this location made sense," Cook stated, adding the city will provide temporary parking locations so businesses won't suffer from the lost of activity.
