Alpharetta Brings Adult, Youth Art Workshops To Crabapple

The city has lined up a slew of programs that will be held in October at the Alpharetta Arts Center at Crabapple.

Residents are invited to harvest their creativity this fall with a series of art programs and workshops offered by Alpharetta Recreation and Parks through the Alpharetta Arts Center at Crabapple.

The lineup for the season includes:

Adult classes/workshops

  • Writing the Memoir uses writing workshop forum to provide peer critiques, along with study of varied essays and texts. Six-week session for adults 50+ starts Oct. 2.
  • Sculpture in Clay explores hand-building techniques to create the human head in clay, uses underglazes and oxides to create a painterly surface, and experiments with colors for project finish. Six-week session for adults led by Rosita Czkala starts Oct. 6.
  • Coffee and Canvas is a paint party, even for non-painters! In a fun, social group setting, an artist guides students to replicate the featured painting, step-by-step. Coffee and light refreshments served. For adults 50+ on Saturday, Oct. 10.
  • Art Experience is an art-sampling workshop and this month’s focus is on non-traditional scrapbooking. For adults 50+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
  • Painting offers instruction in technique at all levels, using oil, acrylic or watercolor to create landscapes, abstracts, or paint from still life and photos. Multi-week sessions for adults start Oct. 21 (Kip Rogers) and Oct. 20 (Maureen Engle).

Youth programs

  • Creative Playgrounds leads little artists to create a special piece of art each month. For ages 3-5 on Thursday, Oct. 15.
  • Mini-Art School teaches students how to transform a simple drawing into a piece of art using pastels, watercolor and collage. Six-week session for ages 6-9 starts Oct. 22.
  • Kids and Canvas lets young artists create on canvas boards and canvases, using acrylic paint, foil, and other materials. Six-week session for ages 7-12 starts Oct. 22.
  • Building Blocks of Art encourages toddlers to explore art basics through drawing, color, shapes and texture, with their parents. Four-week session for ages 2-5 starts Oct. 27.
