Alpharetta Detectives Seize $5.6 Million of Crystal Meth

Most of the narcotics were discovered Wednesday inside the box spring of a mattress packaged and ready for delivery

Alpharetta police detectives found 150 pounds of crystal meth valued at $5.6 million at a Collingwood Lane apartment on Aug. 8.

Most of the narcotics were packaged for delivery within the box springs of a mattress. More narcotics were found in the "finishing stage" within a small meth lab, according to a release from George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The detectives conducted the operation based upon leads. A K9 narcotic dog was brought to a structure outside of the apartment, and it alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search warrant was obtained.

Police identified a suspect as a Hispanic male. The investigation continues and an intensive search is underway to locate the suspect and take him into custody.

Gordon said Alpharetta police requested and received valuable assistance from the DEA Clandestine Lab Team to safely disassemble the lab and clean up the premise.

This was a significant seizure resulting in the removal of a large amount of narcotics from the streets of the Atlanta Metro region. This seizure illustrates our continued commitment to stop the illegal drug trade in Georgia.
