Alpharetta To Host Document Shredding, Electronics Recycling

The city's event will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 in the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's headquarters.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- This weekend, the city of Alpharetta and its Natural Resources Commission will host an opportunity for you to get rid of your unwanted electronics and sensitive documents in a safe and secure manner.

North Fulton businesses and residents will be able to recycle computers and other electronics from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 22 in the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's parking lot.

The city is joining forces with with Atlanta Recycling Solution to organize the event, which is designed to give residents and businesses the opportunity to properly recycle and dispose electronic waste.

Atlanta Recycling Solutions recycles everything it accepts and materials are never sent to be processed in developing nations.

The following items will be accepted at no charge:

• Computers
• DVD players & VCRs
• Portable electronics
• Mobile phones
• Computer parts
• Telephones
• iPods
• Toner cartridges
• Cables/Wires
• Calculators
• Monitors (Note $10 for CRT monitors)
• Printers
• Small electronics
• Laptops
• UPS batteries

Please note that there will be a $20 charge for acceptable televisions - no projection TV’s, console units, or TV tubes. An additional charge of $10 will also be applied for CRT monitors.

The following items will not be accepted:

• Small appliances
• Microwave ovens
• Tires
• Refrigerators
• Freezers
• Trash
• Humidifiers and dehumidifiers
• Washers
• Dryers
• Power equipment
• Vacuum cleaners
• Ovens

The city's event will be held in conjunction to a document shredding service provided during the same date and time by 1st Secure Shredding. The service will be offered in the same parking lot, and gives residents and small businesses the opportunity to safely discard confidential documents using a mobile, on-site shredding truck.

The document shredding service limits participation to five boxes per resident.

The Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission is also requesting that participants enhance this act of giving back by bringing one can of food per box brought for shredding. All collected food items will be dispersed to neighbors through the North Fulton Community Charities Food Bank.

Alpharetta asks that businesses having a large amount of electronics contact Atlanta Recycling Solutions directly at (678) 566-6665 to discuss pick up options.

Anyone who needs to shred more than the allotted amount is asked to contact Sandy Lehman with 1st Secure Shredding to make other arrangements at (678) 773-9306.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is located at 2565 Old Milton Parkway.
