Alpharetta Legion Mails 10,000th Package To Troops
American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta recently mailed out its 10,000th care package to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

ALPHARETTA, GA — For 16 years, Alpharetta American Legion Post 201 has supported America’s combat and support units in war zones.
This week, the Legion dispatched its 10,000th package to the brave men and women in uniform on the front lines in the global war on terror. Each package contains items such as non-perishable foods, snacks, magazines, books, toiletries and other hard to acquire items.
The chairman of the post’s package program, Steve Olesnevich, said the special handling packages are expensive to mail running about $18.50 for each one. Olesnevich said he gets great cooperation from area merchants for the items included in the packages, but the postage expenses limit Post 201’s ability to increase the quantity of packages going to Iraq and Afghanistan.
