Alpharetta Man Killed In Forsyth County Crash
The 74-year-old driver ran a red light and was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Mary Alice Park Road and Marketplace Boulevard.

CUMMING, GA — A 74-year-old Alpharetta resident is dead after police say he went through a red light at an intersection and collided with another vehicle Tuesday in Forsyth County.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Fire Department and Cumming Police Department were all dispatched to a two-vehicle collision around 9:33 a.m. July 3 to the intersection of Marketplace Boulevard and Mary Alice Park Road.
According to Deputy First Class Andy Ives, a traffic investigator with the sheriff's office, a white 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by 71-year-old Michael Godfrey of Cumming was traveling south on Marketplace Boulevard, approaching its intersection with Mary Alice Park Road, while a tan 1994 GMC Sierra C1500 pick-up was traveling east on Mary Alice Park Road, approaching Marketplace Boulevard.

Police say the Dodge Ram entered the intersection and collided with the driver's side of the GMC Sierra, driven by Christopher Lyle, 74, of Alpharetta. Lyle died at the scene of the collision.

Police note the traffic signal for north and southbound Marketplace Boulevard was green, giving Godfrey the right of way, while the traffic signal for east and westbound Mary Alice Park Road was red.
Godfrey was transported to North Fulton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation by the Traffic Specialist Unit.
