Alpharetta, Milton Election 2019: Incumbents Reelected, Moore Won
Voters in Alpharetta and Milton have decided city council races. Alpharetta incumbents have been reelected, and Moore won in Milton.

ALPHARETTA/MILTON, GA — Unofficial results Tuesday showed all Alpharetta incumbents have won back their City Council seats. Milton District 1, Post 2 Councilwoman Carol Cookerly and District 3, Post 2 Councilman Rick Mohrig both kept their seats. District 2 Post 2 saw a contentious race between two candidates, with Paul Moore ultimately winning.
Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin took 3,234 votes for his seat. Alpharetta Post 4 Councilman John Hipes and Post 5 Councilman Jason Binder each received 3,146 votes.
Alpharetta Post 6 saw a race between three candidates, with incumbent Councilman Dan Merkel ultimately winning his seat back with 2,196 votes. Clifford Martin took 746 votes, and Abu Jalloh received 550 votes.

Both special election questions in Alpharetta regarding homestead exemption passed.
The first question voters approved the increase of homestead exemption from all City of Alpharetta ad valorem taxes for residents of the City of Alpharetta from $40,000 to $45,000.

The elimination of an income cap for the Alpharetta Senior Homestead Exemption which will eliminate the income restriction for the $10,000 homestead exemption for those over 65-years-old was also passed.
In Milton, Cookerly received 1,708 votes, and Mohrig took 1,682 votes.
Moore won the Milton District 2, Post 2 seat with 1,375 votes against Burds' 820 votes.
Out of the 325,889 registered voters in Tuesday's Fulton County races, 38,936 voted, or nearly 12 percent.
The Alpharetta City Council election included incumbents Mayor Jim Gilvin, Post 4 Councilman John Hipes and Post 5 Councilman Jason Binder, all of whom were unopposed. Incumbent Councilman Dan Merkel faced residents Clifford Martin and Abu Jalloh for Alpharetta City Council Post 6.
The Milton City Council election included incumbents District 1, Post 2 Councilwoman Carol Cookerly and District 3, Post 2 Councilman Rick Mohrig, who were unopposed. Residents Judy Burds and Paul Moore vied for Milton City Council District 2, Post 2.

- Expansion of City of Alpharetta Homestead Exemption: "Shall the Act be approved which increases the homestead exemption from all City of Alpharetta ad valorem taxes for residents of the City of Alpharetta from $40,000.00 to $45,000.00?"
- Elimination of Income Cap for City of Alpharetta Senior Homestead Exemption: "Shall the Act be approved which eliminates the income restriction for the $10,000.00 homestead exemption from all City of Alpharetta ad valorem taxes for residents age 65 years and older?"
