Alpharetta Physical Therapist Receives State Merit Award
Derek Clewley receives 2014 Merit Award from the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia

ATLANTA (Oct. 23, 2014) – Alpharetta resident and physical therapist, Dr. Derek Clewley, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, received the 2014 Merit Award from the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia (PTAG). The Merit Award is the highest honor given by PTAG, which recognizes a Georgia physical therapist for exceptional service and achievement within the physical therapy community.
Dr. Clewley is a dedicated member of PTAG, who was nominated for his extensive contributions to the physical therapy profession. Having earned his doctorate of physical therapy and being certified as an orthopaedic clinical specialist, Clewley is a PhD candidate in the orthopaedic and sports sciences.
In addition to his continued pursuit of education, Clewley developed and continues to serve as the director of residency programs for BenchMark Physical Therapy — the largest in-house residency program in the nation. He also serves as a member of the faculty for Evidence in Motion’s residency, fellowship the DPT program and as a clinical faculty member with Emory University and Mercer University. Additionally, he is an active participant of various PTAG and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) committees.

“Derek sets a stellar example as a representative of the association,” says Dr. Joe Donnelly, president of PTAG. “His career achievements and leadership in the physical therapy profession are admirable and an inspiration to both our organization and his peers.”
Criteria for the Merit Award are based on achievement within the fields of education, practice and research, as well as service to PTAG and the physical therapy profession. Eligible applicants are nominated through a specific selection process and are later voted on by both the PTAG Award Committee and Executive Committee.
