Alpharetta Police See Spike in Entering Auto Thefts

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is advising residents to "take, lock and hide" items from plain view in vehicles.

During the holiday season, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety and our regional law enforcement partners experience a significant increase in reported theft offenses involving items stolen from vehicles.

While crime remains low in the city of Alpharetta, the reported incidents of entering auto offenses are increasing. The phrase entering auto pertains to the act of someone unlawfully entering your vehicle to take something of value.

Often the items stolen were left lying out in plain view by someone. Such items may be purses, wallets, cell phones, electronic devices, personal information, checkbooks etc.

The vast majority of these thefts can be prevented by acting upon the words take, lock and hide. We strong encourage citizens and visitors to take their valuables out of their automobile, lock your vehicle at all times when unoccupied and hide valuables out of plain view.
