PAL works with at-risk youth age 8 to 18, and provides programs such as after school activities, tutoring, music, boxing and fitness, summer camp, mentoring, leadership, literacy, basketball, soccer, fundraising events and, of course, Shop with a Cop.
Shop with a Cop provides each less fortunate child $100 to spend on themselves or a family for the holiday season. This program is funded by community donations. Just over 100 children are slated to participate.

This year’s event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at Walmart located at 5200 Windward Parkway.
“The smiles and excitement as these kids shop is a priceless experience,” said PAL board member Jim Paine. “Knowing you made a big difference in their holiday is incredibly rewarding to all the policemen and firemen who volunteer to help.”
Children will be escorted individually through the big box retailer with an officer or firefighter, and they will help the kids pick out gifts and keep up with the money they spend.
The Rotary Club of Alpharetta loves to help the community in a variety of ways, and this is just one good deed that happens around the Christmas holidays, said President Kirk Driskell.
“Our club is made up of people with giving hearts and they all quickly see the need to help children not only have gifts at Christmas, but to be able to help the kids buy something for their loved ones,” Driskell added.
