Alpharetta Rotary Club Members Volunteer With Meals By Grace

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Members of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta recently gave back to families in need by volunteering to feed less fortunate residents.

On Sunday, Jan. 15, Alpharetta Rotarians traveled to Midway United Methodist Church to help Forsyth County-based Meals By Grace and its volunteers set up various stations to sort clothing and food for the citizens they serve.

Meals by Grace is a nonprofit ministry focused on providing food support through multiple programs to children and families in need.

Families are recommended to the program by school social workers, childcare center directors and poverty trained counselors.

Registered families provide a list of preferred food items and volunteers fill a shopping bag with pantry staple foods for the family. After the bag is filled, the goods are placed in a bin along with meat, bread and desserts, and delivered to the clients by volunteers.

Volunteers gather each Sunday at the church to help with client registration, unloading dry goods, sorting clothes and helping out in the kitchen. Rotary Club members who took part in this most recent endeavor include Carla Breakwell, Phil Breakwell, Randy Schiltz, Mickey Rogers and his son, Jeff Franz, Cokkie Eaker, Katie Rocco, Heather Honeycutt, Lauri and Rory Young, Anna Ligon, Estaban Montero, Rob Johns and Cathy Shanley.

An Eagle Scout also packed emergency kits for power outages for the families supported by Meals by Grace.

“Alpharetta Rotarians have a passion to help those in need," said Jason Binder, president of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta. "They volunteer for different organizations all over Alpharetta and Meals by Grace is just one of those organizations that we support."

Binder thanked club members for their providing volunteer hours, and said the initiative was "another great service opportunity for our members to demonstrate the Rotary motto of Service above Self.”
