Nicolle, who goes by Niki, will turn 19 next month and started college at home in January, pursuing a career in graphic design. She will attend University of North Georgia this year while living in the United States.

Both of Niki’s parents are remarried, so she has two complete families and grandparents and she is very close to all of them. She has traveled some, including visits to Miami, Disney World and month in Korea with a student program.

The Rotary Club of Alpharetta co-sponsors a GRSP scholarship with the Rotary Clubs of Windward-Milton and Sandy Springs, so Niki’s time will be divided among the three Rotary Clubs.

The Alpharetta host family this year is the family of Rotarian Sidney Browning. The Browning family on Friday took Niki along to the Rotary outing at the Atlanta Braves game.

“We are very excited to have our club participating in this awesome program with Rotary International,” said Club President Kirk Driskell. “We will do everything we can as a club to make Niki feel welcome in the United States.”

Since 1946, Rotarians in the state of Georgia have promoted world peace through understanding by offering scholarships to international students for one year of study at Georgia colleges and universities.

Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended by a Rotary Club in their home country. The students become adopted members of a Georgia host family, living on-campus at the school they attend. This is a scholarship program, not an exchange.

Each year, about 60 students from all over the world make friends in the United States and other nations and learn about differing cultures and lifestyles.
