Alpharetta Taps McCall To Serve As Deputy Director of Public Safety

Wesley McCall will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's field units.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety has chosen Division Chief Wesley McCall to serve as its new deputy director.

McCall will be responsible for monitoring the daily operations of the agency’s field units, and will report directly to Public Safety Director Gary George.

“Wes McCall has been an exceptional employee for the Alpharetta community and specifically Alpharetta public safety for over 15 years,” George said. “His commitment to public safety and our community is solid and I am proud to have promoted him to his current assignment.”

McCall started his career with the Alpharetta Fire Department in 1998. He holds a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University and is a certified firefighter and EMT. He has served previously within the Alpharetta public safety organization as the public information officer, emergency manager and interim deputy director.

George also promoted a police lieutenant to the rank of captain.

Will Merrill will immediately assume command as captain over the department’s intelligence unit and other specified units.

Merrill has been a certified police officer since 1990 and is in his sixth year of service with Alpharetta public safety. He holds many certifications and has worked in a variety of assignments during his career including patrol officer, detective, drug investigations, SWAT, hostage negotiations, criminal investigations division commander and lieutenant.

Merrill holds a master of public administration degree from Columbus State University.

“I am proud to promote Will Merrill to police captain,” George said. “He is very dedicated and will serve our agency and community well in his new assignment.”
