Alpharettan Earns Honors from Her Profession
J. Anna Avakian is a certified practitioner of orthotics and prosthetics at Southern Prosthetic Supply in Alpharetta.

J. Anna Avakian, a certified practitioner of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) at Southern Prosthetic Supply Inc. in Alpharetta, will be inducted into the 2013 class of Fellows by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists during the organization’s 39th Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium on Feb. 22 in Orlando, FL. Avakian is one of just 14 people in the nation to receive the distinction this year.
“The Fellow of the Academy credential is one of the highest honors in the O&P profession,” said Academy Executive Director Peter Rosenstein. “Only a small percentage of O&P practitioners have demonstrated the commitment to the highest level of patient care through the pursuit of continuing education and service to their community required to earn the Fellow designation.”
In addition to her educational achievements and professional success, Avakian spent nearly four months providing free O&P care in Haiti in 2010 following its devastating earthquake. She has presented research at regional and national meetings and has taught courses at Century College (White Bear Lake, Minnesota) and Georgia Tech.
