Bridgeway Christian Academy (BCA) recently hosted the 2011-2012 ACSI Math Olympics. Sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the annual event provides an opportunity for students in grades 3 – 8 to exercise their math skills in a healthy competition.
The competition consists of a series of tests, each considered as a round, in the categories of computation and reasoning. Ribbons are awarded to the top five students in each grade and category. The objectives of Math Olympics are to stimulate an interest in mathematics, recognize student achievement in mathematics, and to provide them an opportunity to glorify God through the use of their mathematics skills.
The March event marked the 10th consecutive year for Bridgeway to serve as the Math Olympics host, with BCA students earning another seven ribbons for the School. Bridgeway’s winning mathletes included: Patrick Park, 1st place in 8th grade computation; Sydel Idehen, 3rd place in 4th grade computation; Mackenzie Caudill, 3rd place in 8th grade computation; Anna Pickerign, 3rd place in 5th grade reasoning; Christian VanBreene, 3rd place in 7th grade reasoning; Maya Keator, 3rd place in 8th grade reasoning; and Natalie Exley, 5th place in 6th grade reasoning.
