Apartment Fire Displaces Residents in Milton

MILTON, GA -- Milton Fire-Rescue crews are investigating an apartment fire that damaged several units and forced as many citizens to find a temporary place to live.

Crews with the city as well as the Alpharetta Fire Department were dispatched to a call around 12:30 a.m. June 26 of a fire at the 19000 building on Deer Point Court.

Firefighters had to evacuate about 100 citizens from the building to fight the blaze, said Deputy Fire Chief Mark Stephens. Three units were damaged by fire, smoke and water while an additional three were hit with water damage.

Stephens added those six units were "unlivable," so the citizens residing in those structures were displaced.

The remaining residents were able to return to their apartments after the fire was extinguished and the units were deemed safe, a task Stephens said took about four hours to complete.

Crews also were able to rescue two pets from the units. Stephens said the fire remains under investigation.

"No cause has been released at this point; however, the fire appears to be accidental," he added.
