Atlanta Track Club Honors Milton, Cambridge Students
The club's All-Metro Selections Included both coaches and athletes.
ATLANTA GA -- Atlanta Track Club honored their 54th All-Metro selections in high school cross country with their annual banquet and awards ceremony for athletes & coaches in the Atlanta metropolitan area for the 2017 season. Both Milton & Cambridge High Schools were also recognized for their state championships and top-athletes.
With both Milton High School (boys) & Cambridge High School (boys & girls) both winning state cross country championships this season, their top-athletes and coaches were recognized for their achievements & performances.
Coaches Andy Carr (Milton, 7A Boys State Champions) & Brad Coulter (Cambridge, 6A Girls & Boys State Champions) were awarded All-Metro Coaches awards for their state championships. Atlanta metropolitan schools won state championships in All-Classes except for Class 1A-Public & Class 2A. The last Fulton County Public Schools Coach to be honored was Tony Cianciolla of Northview in 2015 (Girls State Championship).

On the athletic side, Milton senior Sam Bowers was named the Runner of the Year/Jeff Benton Award for the 2nd straight time with his overwhelming victory in Class 7A at the state meet. Bowers was Fulton County & Area champion along with a 5th place at the Nike SE regional meet followed by a 35th place finish at the Nike National meet just last weekend.
“Being honored tonight was incredible,” said Bowers. “I’m really looking forward to being pushed to the next level of competition next year.” He will run for the University of Georgia in 2018.

Joining Bowers on the 1st-Team awards list was Milton’s Nicholas Yanek. The fellow senior was 2nd at the Class 7A state meet and was 6th at the SE Regional & 44th at the National meet and had runner-ups at Fulton County & Area behind Bowers. Also on the All-Metro boys 2nd team was Cambridge junior Jack Filan. Season highlights for Filan included a 6th place at the Fulton County Championships, winning a region title and finishing 6th in the 6A state meet.
Nine coaches were honored for coaching state championship teams with Jimmy Sorrells of Flowery Brand High School receiving the Paul Koshewa Coaches Dedication Award for girls coaches and Jack Coleman of Marietta High School winning the Jerry Frasier Coaches Dedication Award for boys coaches. Emily Enriquez (Borsare)(McIntosh’07), Robert Medcalf (Parkview ’82) and Amy Eubanks (Westminster, Coach) were inducted into the Georgia Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Together, the All-Metro honorees represented 10 counties and 28 schools. The All Metro Cross Country Banquet is Atlanta Track Club’s oldest event, occurring every year since the Club’s founding in 1964.
