Back To School: Milton Warns Of Traffic Changes, New Crossing Guard

Monday, Aug. 7 is the first day of school for Fulton County.

MILTON, GA -- Fulton County Schools will reopen Monday, Aug. 7 for the 2017-18 school year. With this in mind, the city of Milton wants to share with its residents of some various traffic-related issues motorists should keep in mind as students return to school

  • Traffic Direction - Due to recent administrative changes, Fulton County Schools has elected to begin utilizing officers from the Fulton County Marshal's Department and the Georgia State Patrol for traffic direction at Milton area schools. This change is effective on Aug. 7, 2017. We appreciate the opportunity over the last several years for our officers to engage in off-duty assignments in support of our local schools, and respect the school system's decision to move in a different direction. We would ask that our residents be patient with new officers during the initial transition period.
  • Pedestrian Signals - A Milton police officer will be at the intersection of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road during the mornings and afternoons to assist with pedestrian traffic for Cambridge High School until the pedestrian signals are functional. This is an ongoing project area, and officers will be in place until the crosswalk work has been completed and the pedestrian signals are working.
  • Crossing Guard - As some of you may know, Milton lost its long-time school crossing guard Remco Bromett at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. While we're certainly going to miss Remco, we have identified an excellent candidate who is in the process of completing the required paperwork. In the meantime, our Milton police officers will be filling in for morning and afternoon duty. We look forward to introducing our newest member of the Milton family in the coming weeks.

More than 96,000 students are expected to show up at schools across Fulton County this year. You can read more about the district's expectations, along with its new programs and initiatives, by clicking here.
