Better Together Volunteers Paint, Repair Cogburn Woods Elementary Fence

Girl Scouts get help from the volunteer group, Cub Scouts and the Young Men's Service League.

Milton’s Better Together resident volunteer group recently pitched in to help local Girl Scouts paint and repair a 500-foot steel fence at Cogburn Woods Elementary School. The Scouts were joined at their summer service project by the Young Men’s Service League, Milton chapter, and Cub Scout Pack 1459.

“This was a golden opportunity to teach the girls the value of planning, organization and hard work,” Colleen Jones, who leads Troop 3027, told Milton Communications Manager Jason Wright. “And we greatly appreciate the support we received when we reached out to the other groups.”

The volunteers split the fence work up into sections, and the fence was spruced up in just two weeks.

“When we first started the project, we didn’t think it would blossom into so much more,” said Caroline Tobin, a rising 6th grader and Girl Scout.

To celebrate a job well done, the Girl Scouts hosted an ice cream social for everyone who worked on the project.
