Boutique Hotel Gets Green Light From Alpharetta Leaders

The Cotton House Hotel would be constructed on Milton Avenue at Old Canton Street.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- A proposal to bring a high-end business use to downtown Alpharetta was approved by the City Council. City leaders voted at their Nov. 13 meeting to approve a rezoning request to accommodate a boutique hotel with retail and restaurant uses.

VS Milton Retail LLC submitted plans to rezone .99 acres on the north side of Milton Avenue at Old Canton Street from C2 (general commercial) to DTC (downtown core) for the Cotton House Hotel. The conditional use permit to allow for the hotel in the DTC zoning category was also approved, as was the request to remove structures at 21, 29 and 35 Milton Avenue.

From the time the proposal was submitted to the city for review to the Council's Nov. 13 meeting, the applicant revised the site plan and building to address concerns raised by residents and Alpharetta Planning Commission members.

Plans show there will be 119 rooms, and the building height has been lowered to 4 stories and 56 feet in height. The company also withdrew a request to abandon a portion of Old Canton Street. The original project called for a 120-key, 5-story development.

Developers are also proposing 8,900 square feet of restaurant space and 15,290 square feet of hotel amenity space, including fitness center, meeting space, retail shop, restaurant and day spa.

The boutique hotel will be Curio Collection by Hilton or Hotel Indigo by IHG. The Cotton Gin Spa, a luxury day spa, is proposed in conjunction with the boutique hotel. Spa services that are proposed on site include massages, facials, hot stones, aromatherapy, body treatments, manicures, pedicures, hair services, waxing and makeup application.
