Burt Hewitt Resigns From Milton City Council

Hewitt has served on the City Council since 2007.

MILTON, GA — The Milton City Council will soon be short one person, as Burt Hewitt has resigned from the District 1/Post 2 seat. Hewitt submitted his resignation at the Council's April 23 meeting. He told the Council that Monday was his last meeting, as he and his family will be moving from the area.

"I've enjoyed my 10 years here," Hewitt said.

Hewitt, who was first elected to the Council in 2007, noted he's learned a lot about himself and the "great people" who live in Milton and work for the city. Everyone who is employed by the city, he added, really cares about what they do, which is something "you can't elect."

"I hope that I have helped contribute in some small way to the success we have had as a city, and I appreciate everybody's support and everything everybody has done for me, and I look forward to see what y'all do in the future."

City Manager Steven Krokoff said Hewitt intended for his resignation to be effective immediately. However, it will not be accepted by the City Council until its May 7 meeting. The acceptance will be "executed" through a resolution that will be adopted by city leaders at the next meeting, he added.

The city's charter will require Milton to fill the vacant seat in the Nov. 8 election. According to the city's website, Hewitt led a team to celebrate the city's first anniversary celebration. He was born in Columbus and holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Auburn University. He and wife, Ivey, have four children.
