Census Bureau Reps Are Knocking On Doors In Alpharetta

Currently, 30 percent of Alpharetta households have not completed the 2020 Census, the city reported.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Beginning this week, representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau will begin canvassing Alpharetta and other communities, knocking on the doors of households that have not completed the 2020 Census online.

Information from the 2020 Census will be used to determine how much money local communities receive from federal and state agencies for road improvements, schools, disaster relief and more. That means that for every Alpharetta resident that is not counted in the Census, the community loses funding that is paid for by tax dollars but will go to other communities.

Over the past 10 years, Alpharetta lost out on millions in federal and state funding because approximately 25 percent of households in the city did not complete the 2010 Census, the city said. Currently 30 percent of Alpharetta households have not completed the 2020 Census, which means the community will miss out on more federal funds.
