ALPHARETTA, GA – The second installment of the Save the Horses Annual Charity Horse Show in collaboration with Brownwood Farms returns to Wills Park Equestrian Center at 11915 Wills Road in Alpharetta Georgia on Sunday June 10, 2018.

The public is invited to join as a vendor, spectator, sponsor or rider for a no points “fun day” to help benefit the more than 130 rescued horses and other animals that are cared for by Save the Horses Rescue, a non-profit 501(c)(3) farm based in Cumming GA.

Charity Horse Show Dedicated to Trudy

This year’s event will be dedicated to the memory of a horse named Trudy who is the rescue’s beloved 34 year old Appaloosa mare who passed away in early March. She came to the rescue in 1996 as the most physically and mentally abused horse on the farm.

“Her tormentors bound her legs together with barbed wire and dragged her behind a tractor.” Says the rescue’s founder Cheryl Flanagan. “She arrived terrified and understandably had huge trust issues with humans. With years of countless volunteers providing love, patience and comfort, coupled with a miraculous connection session with Monty Robert’s Join Up program, Trudy started to trust again – our farm became her safe place. Over the years she lost her eyesight but she was always a precious soul to us and was loved by everyone who met her.” Volunteers and supporters were all heartbroken when Trudy passed away on March 8 at 34 years of age.

Riders, Sponsors and Vendors Wanted

Last year the Save the Horses Annual Charity Horse Show featured over 25 vendors and 14 sponsors. “We are planning an even larger show this year as we have added classes that include jumping.” Says Mellisa Cotton, the Show Director. “Vendors and Sponsors for this year’s show can visit our show site to fill out an application. We offer an extensive exposure to our more than 25,000 supporters and the media.”

Current show sponsors include Heartfelt Healing Arts, PC, C'ranza Designs and Laura Quinn of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers.

All Riders and Horses of All Ages & Abilities Are Welcome

All riders and horses of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. The event features both Hunter and Western disciplines. “If you have never ridden in a show before, this is the place to get your feet wet.” Says Cotton. Spectator admission and parking is free. Food and vendors will be available.

With no federal or state funding, Cumming GA based Save the Horses (a 501c3 non-profit) has to rely on donations to operate from corporations and individuals.

“It is important for us to raise the money to buy feed & hay and continue helping horses stay healthy and safe. With the economic instability over the past few years, donations have slowed down but the amount of horses needing help has increased tremendously. We are heartbroken to turn a needy horse down.” Says Flanagan.
