The Oct. 5 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. People can attend in-person, or they can watch it virtually via this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx0kAgmSF9s&list=PLpkXg669ndrYzu21qt1ELhBP_hD73cott&index=6.

The Design Review Board makes recommendations to the City’s Community Development Director (and, in specific instances, other City committees). Members review new construction, new site development, and certain significant alterations to existing structures. Any comments should be consistent with City Code. The DRB also casts votes on demolition permits.

The meeting will begin with courtesy reviews of variance requests, specifically:

  • For a house at 2640 BETHANY CREEK COURT to encroach 8 feet into a rear setback
  • Two requests at 13705 BRITTLE ROAD, namely:
    • For a new barn housing animals to set less than 100 feet from the south property line
    • For an accessory structure to remain in the property’s rear building setback
  • For a reduced side-yard setback (from 25 feet to 12 feet, 5 inches) at 355 GUNSTON HALL CIRCLE for the construction of an additional garage

This will be followed by three final reviews on:

  • A design revised elevation for the MARKET DISTRICT AT CRABAPPLE’S BUILDING 4
  • Architectural designs for UNITS 1-5 OF TOWNHOMES AT CRABAPPLE MARKET
  • Architectural designs for UNITS 10-14 OF TOWNHOMES AT CRABAPPLE MARKET

The last agenda item before adjournment, listed under “Old Business,” relates to the LAKESIDE AT CRABAPPLE TOWNHOME UNITS (at Heritage Walk and Mayfield Road). The developer is building the townhomes exactly as approved by the City’s then-Community Development Director. The DRB, however, wasn’t able to review the designs initially because its meetings around that time were canceled amid a COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

After Tuesday, the DRB is next scheduled to convene on November 2.
