How would you design the roads, sidewalks, and then some around Milton to be safer, more efficient, and altogether better for everyone who uses them?

The team behind Milton’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan will dive into this question, as well as get you up-to-date on transportation plans and Smart Cities technology concepts, at its next Community Education Session -- which is slated for 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11. Like the other two Community Education Sessions held this year, Thursday’s event will be entirely virtual. People can participate via Zoom using this link: https://zoom.us/j/97733016850. They'll also be able to answer survey questions via Menti.com or follow along on the City’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/thecityofmiltonga.
The topic is “Transportation and Smart Technology.” After being briefed on what has been and will be happening in both areas, citizens will get a chance to weigh in on what road design features – such as median islands, speed feedback signs, “pinch points,” roundabouts and bicycle lanes – make the most sense for Milton. Later, they'll hear about digital kiosks, lighted sidewalks, "sharrows," electronic vehicle charging stations, and other features that could find a place in the city over the next 20 years.

This is one of two Comprehensive Plan events this month, the other being a CPAC (Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee) work session set to start at 6 p.m. on March 25. This CPAC meeting will delve into transportation, "smart" technology, as well as sustainability (a focus of an earlier Community Education Session). CPAC consists of citizen leaders charged with exploring and offering direction on the wide array of critical matters that City government can influence that may become folded into the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
Like previous versions, the 2040 Comprehensive Plan will spell out priorities, policies and projects for Milton leaders to consider. The idea is that it will become a guide that will look at where Milton wants to be two decades from now, then outline an approach to make that idealized future a reality.
The 2040 Comprehensive Plan process began last year and will extend into this summer, when Mayor Joe Lockwood and City Council members will vote on a final draft. A lot of work has been done on it so far, with even more to come.

Citizens can also go there to share their comments, generally, on what should be included in Milton’s Comprehensive Plan.
