MILTON, GA -- Construction is set to begin next week, weather permitting, on pedestrian crosswalks across Heritage Walk.

This is the first phase in the City of Milton's plans to make the popular Crabapple area more pedestrian friendly. The first phase is the raised crosswalks/speed tables at Heritage Walk. Phase two will be a Streetscape plan for Crabapple Road, which will be submitted to the Georgia Department of Transportation for review this spring.

Construction will begin March 18 on three raised crosswalks/tpeed Tables along Heritage Walk at Lecoma Trace, Itaska Walk and at City Hall. The Project Layout shows the planned locations.

The City of Milton said it is working to improve pedestrian access in the Crabapple area. A proposal for streetscape and pedestrian improvements on Crabapple Road was presented to the Mayor and City Council on April 9, 2018. The next steps are to submit the proposal to Georgia Department of Transportation for comments and determine a funding source for the improvements.

Citywide pavement edging project has been completed, the city said. This process removes growth and debris directly adjacent to the pavement and helps ensure water is effectively removed from the roadways. Right of way mowing will begin in April.
