Eagles Track and Field Have Successful State Meet
The Milton boys team finished 18th with multiple scoring performances.

The Milton track & field teams concluded their season with a strong showing at the state track & field championships in Jefferson, GA. The Eagles 13 team points placed them 18th in a field of over 36 scoring schools.
On the first day of the meet, senior Quin Lyles-Woods finished a strong 3rd place in the discus (157’6”). Lyles-Woods used a big final throw to move from 6th to 3rd place and score 6 pts towards Milton’s team point total. Later that evening, fellow senior Jack Bluth competed in the 1600m (4:21.48 to finish 8th and score a single point for Milton. This was Bluth’s 3rd time to the state meet and first time scoring and medaling with his performance in the 1600m.

On the 2nd day of the meet, which featured running preliminaries and the 3200m run final, saw Milton get two qualifiers to the final in the 800 meters. Senior John Fravel finished 3rd in his semi-final (1:54.71) but his performance set a new school record in the event & a personal best. In the 2nd 800m semi-final, junior Michael McCarthy also qualified for the final (4th-1:55.20) and also set a personal best & the second-best performance in school history. Senior Justin Taylor ran to a 14.78 performance in the 110 meter hurdles semi-finals but was unable to qualify for the final. Taylor’s mark makes him the 2nd best performer in school history. The final race of the evening had sophomore Sam Bowers run to the 2nd best performance in school history in the 3200 meters. Bowers missed the school record by less than 5-seconds (9:22.00) to finish 9th place. Senior Jack Bluth concluded his successful career at Milton with a 9:40.63 performance in the 3200m to finish 15th.
On the final day of the meet, senior John Fravel put a strong surge in the final meters of the 800m final to record a 4th place finish (1:55.66) and score 5 valuable team points. Junior Michael McCarthy competed well in the 800m final (8th-1:58.64) to match his finish from last year’s meet and score a single point for Milton.
