The Eagle Track Teams hosted the GHSA Region 6-7A Championships last Tuesday and came away with six region titles while qualifying many Milton athletes to the GHSA sectional meet with is Saturday at Archer HS.

Milton (4th-114pts) bested West Forsyth (5th-99.5 pts) & Forsyth Central (6th-43 pts), while Lambert (1st-166 pts) was the overwhelming meet winner in the team competition. The Eagles crowned FOUR region champions led by senior captain Devin Dahunsi. In the Long Jump (1st -23’3.75”) Dahunsi recorded a personal best while improving on the #2 mark in school history in the event. Dahunsi came right back to win the triple jump (1st-46’2.75”) just missing the stadium record. Dahunsi also qualified for the sectionals meet by placing 4th in the 200m (22.47) & running the anchor leg on the 4x400m relay team (3rd-3:30.27). Junior Andrew Sirras (the school record holder) was a decisive winner in the 400m (1st-49.96) while also advancing to the sectionals meet in the 200m (3rd-22.26). The final region champion was the boys 4x800m relay (1st-8:09.48) that ran junior Zach Patell, senior Brandon Sevel, senior Andrew Ramsey & junior Luke Erbey and just missing the stadium record in the process. Patell & Ramsey also qualified for the sectionals meet in the 800m going 2nd & 4th respectively.
GIRLS
The Lady Eagles were led by 2 region champions as Milton (4th-71.3 pts) turned back South Forsyth (5th-64.7 pts) & Denmark (6th-63 pts). The 4x800m relay (1st-10:25.58) team took command late in the race and pulled away for the region title! Team members included senior captain Sydney Anderson, juniors Emerson Armistead & Leelah Dennis & senior captain Emmaline Kelley. Anderson/Dennis/Kelley also qualified for the sectional meet in other events by placing in the top-4 overall in the 800/4x400 relay/3200m respectively. The performances of the day came from junior Ella Grace Malcom. First in the 1600m (2nd 5:15.36), Malcom ran to a 4-second personal best for 2nd which made her the 7th best performer in school history! Next, Malcom led wire-to-wire to WIN the 800m (1st-2:17.70) just besting senior captain Sydney Anderson (2nd-2:18.30) who in turn became the 4th best performer in school history! Malcom finished her day off, along with Anderson & Dennis and sophomore Brynn Sheel (who qualified for the sectional meet in BOTH the 100m & 300m hurdle events) anchoring the 4x400m relay team (3rd-4:14.92) to the 10th best performance in school history & thus qualifying the team for the sectional meet.
All the qualifiers will compete in the GHSA sectional “B” meet this Saturday, May 6th at Archer HS in Lawrenceville, GA with state meet qualifying on the line for the top-8 finishers in each event. The sectional meet pits the top-4 finishers in each event from regions 4, 6, 7 & 8 with the top-8 qualifying for the state meet to be held May 11-13 at McEachern HS in Powder Springs, GA.
