Fireworks Reminder For Labor Day Weekend In Milton

Milton residents are reminded on when they can and can't shoot fireworks on the Labor Day 2017 weekend.

MILTON, GA — If you plan to celebrate Labor Day 2017 with some backyard fireworks, the City of Milton has issued a reminder for residents of Georgia fireworks law. Fire Marshal Matt Marietta encourages consumers to be very careful when using fireworks and always be fire-aware and courteous of your neighbors.

While the sights and sounds are exciting for most folks, fireworks can cause problems for both large and small animals, and even some veterans. Marietta recommends alerting any nearby equestrian neighbors if your holiday plans include fireworks.

Fireworks are legal in the State of Georgia, but there are some restrictions on their usage:

  • Georgia law allows fireworks from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Fireworks between between 9:01 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on a normal day (Labor Day is considered a normal day) are permissible, but you must follow Milton's local noise ordinance (or a special permit must be submitted for review and approval in advance).
  • You cannot use fireworks in/on a public road.
  • You also cannot use fireworks within 100 yards of a(n):
    • Gas station or fuel tank
    • Electric substation
    • Within any county or city park, historic site, recreational area, or other property, unless the county or city has granted a special use permit
    • Within 100 yards of a hospital, nursing home, or other health care facility
    • While under the influence of alcohol or any drug to the extent that it is unsafe to use consumer fireworks

Milton Police and fire code personnel are authorized to enforce these regulations in the interest of public safety.

Remember, embers can burn in the packaging even after the fireworks are done, and used fireworks in a trash can smolder unseen for several hours. Used fireworks should be watered down and stored away from the house or any flammable structures/materials after the festivities end. This will allow them to cool down and help prevent the late night tragedy or your home catching fire. For a fire-related emergency, call 911.
