Free Breast, Cervical Cancer Screenings Offered Year-Round In Fulton County
Fulton County's Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers free or low-cost diagnostic services to income-eligible women.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues throughout the country, the Fulton County Board of Health wants to remind women who live in Fulton County they can obtain these life-saving cancer screenings year-round at its Adamsville, College Park and North Fulton regional health centers.
Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths for women in the United States and in Georgia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC says early detection through health screenings can lower the death rate of breast and cervical cancers. The CDC recommends more women should utilize these life-saving, preventive screenings (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. “The research shows that cancer deaths disproportionately affect women who are uninsured or underinsured," said Fulton County Nursing Supervisor Debra Dewitt. "Therefore, Fulton County’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers these vital services throughout the year."
Through Fulton County’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, women who are income-eligible can receive free or low-cost breast and cervical screenings and other diagnostic services. The program will cover the cost of a mammogram to uninsured Fulton residents who meet the program criteria. To qualify for Fulton County’s BCCP program, a woman must live in the county, be uninsured or underinsured, income eligible, between the ages of 40 to 64 years and had her previous mammogram more than a year ago.
