Fulton County Taps Dick Anderson To Serve as County Manager

Anderson will lead the county's roughly 5,000 employees and nearly 1 million residents.

After an extensive search, the Fulton County Commission on Wednesday unanimously appointed Richard “Dick” Anderson as its county manager.

Anderson’s first official day on the job was Thursday. He will lead the county’s roughly 5,000 employees and nearly 1 million residents.

Anderson brings to this position an extensive career in executive leadership in both the public and private sectors, the county said in a press release. Notably, Anderson achieved a distinguished career in telecommunications, rising from account executive to vice chairman of BellSouth and then group president for AT&T, where he was responsible for a $30 billion business serving global business clients.

“We are thrilled to bring Mr. Anderson to Fulton County Government,” said Commission Chairman John H. Eaves. “His credentials are exemplary. We believe our employees and citizens will benefit from Mr. Anderson’s leadership and commitment to public service.”

Anderson added he believed Fulton County is ”at an inflection point and that by focusing on customer service, efficient operations and high impact priorities we can be the best managed county in Georgia.”

“Our citizens deserve nothing less,” he added.

Most recently, Anderson served as chief operating officer at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He previously served as executive director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority under former Governor Sonny Perdue.

Anderson has long been involved in the Atlanta community and was named one of the 100 Most Influential Atlantans by the Business Chronicle. He served as the 2007 chairman of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and has served on the boards of Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare, MARTA, Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, Georgia Higher Education Facilities Authority, Clark Atlanta University and Camp Twin Lakes.

Anderson earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and MBA from Murray State University and was named Distinguished Alumnus (1994), Faculty Fellow in Business (2005) and Trustee (2014).

He and his wife Maureen and three children reside in Roswell.
