Fulton Makes Decision About Jan 16 After-School Activities

BREAKING: The National Weather Service says up to an inch of light snow could move into Fulton County and much of north Georgia on Tuesday.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Due to the anticipated winter weather expected to move into north Georgia, the Fulton County School System has cancelled all extracurricular activities scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16. The system said this includes after-school programs and Primetime, athletic practices and competitions.

"Parents who have children in after-school programs should be prepared to pick them up or make other arrangements," the system added. "The community meeting for school board members Linda Bryant and Kimberly Dove also is cancelled for tonight."

The school district will continue to monitor the weather and share updates as appropriate, and residents should stay tuned to the system's website, social media accounts and local news media for updates.

The Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Fulton County will go into effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. A wind chill advisory will also take effect Tuesday, starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Light snow and very cold wind chills expected today, with total accumulations of up to 1 inch predicted for the area. Residents should also expect wind chills ranging from 15 above to 5 below 0 degrees.

Light snow will cause travel difficulties while the cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30
minutes to exposed skin, NWS states.
