Fulton School System Schedules Make-Up Day For Inclement Weather

The system missed a total of four days in February due to the winter weather that moved through Alpharetta and Milton.

The Fulton County School System has announced the date it will utilize to make up for at least one instructional day lost due to inclement weather.

Friday, March 13 will be used as a make-up day due to the school cancellations in February, the school system said on Tuesday.

The 2014-15 school year calendar had already designated March 13 as a teacher workday and a day off for students, as a make-up day if it should be needed.

“This is a critical time of year for students to be in school,” said Superintendent Robert Avossa. “There is a lot to be done in the next three months and our students and teachers need every instructional day. Also, we’re not out of the woods yet when it comes to bad weather. If we have to close school again, we would have to look at other options for making up the missed time. But as of right now, we have no plans for students to make up the other three days missed in February.”

The rest of the school year calendar currently is unaffected. Spring break remains on schedule for April 6-10 and the last day of school continues to be May 22. High school graduation dates are not impacted.

Four days have been missed this year due to inclement weather: Feb. 17, Feb. 20 and Feb. 25-26. Make-up options for workdays missed by employees are currently under discussion, the system said.
