Fulton Schools Among Best Communities For Music Education

ATLANTA, GA -- The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation has recognized the Fulton County School System as one of the best for music education.

The system was among 527 districts that were awarded the 2017 Best Communities for Music Education by the foundation.

The program recognizes efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, student and community stakeholders who've made music education part of the system's curriculum.

The foundation, with the help of researchers at the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas and based on survey results, each year selects school districts to be recognized as being among the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME).

Individual schools with excellent music education receive the foundation's SupportMusic Merit Award (SMMA).

Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. These districts and schools set the bar in offering students access to comprehensive music education.

The BCME program and the SupportMusic Merit Award evaluate schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards and access to music instruction.

Along with Fulton County Schools, the Cobb and Gwinnett school districts were also awarded the honor in the metro Atlanta area. Other Georgia districts recognized include Baldwin County Schools, Clarke County Schools and the Putnam County Charter School System.

Additionally, Eastside Elementary School in Douglasville was awarded the SupportMusic Merit Award.
