Fulton Schools Make Decision On Sept. 13 Classes

BREAKING: Between 15 and 20 percent of the system's schools are without power after Tropical Storm Irma made its way through Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA -- The Fulton County School System will remain closed on Wednesday due to widespread power outages that continue to plague the county, the district said early Tuesday evening.

Between 15 and 20 percent of Fulton schools are still without power after Tropical Storm Irma made its way through Georgia, bringing down countless trees and power lines around metro Atlanta and the state.

While schools are closed for students, employees who work on the 235-day calendar are asked to report for duty at their regularly scheduled time of arrival.

The Fulton County School Board will proceed with its work session on Wednesday at the North Learning Center at 450 Northridge Parkway in Sandy Springs. The board will first meet at 9 a.m. to adopt the fiscal year 2018 millage rate followed by a series of workshops and executive session. At noon, the board will begin discussion of the topics slated for the Thursday, Sept. 19 board agenda followed by a public comment session at 1 p.m.

According to Georgia Power, there are still more than 519,000 customers without power throughout the state.
