Fulton Schools Outperforms State On CCRPI, Climate Star Results

FULTON COUNTY, GA — The annual College and Career Ready Performance Index, commonly referred to as CCRPI, is compiled by the Georgia Department of Education using scores on a 0 to 100 scale from multiple indicators within five main components: Content Mastery, Progress, Closing Gaps, Readiness and Graduation Rates (high school only). According to data released by the state today, Fulton County Schools’ overall score in 2019 increased to 83.8, which is 7.9 points above the state average. Fulton County Schools ranked above the state average in all grade levels.

“This is a dramatic achievement with gains in all levels and across the district," said Cliff Jones, Chief Academic Officer. "Our CCRPI and Climate Star rankings reflect great work by our professional teachers, principals and staff."

Driving the growth was an overall improvement across the district with a total of 67 schools showing increases; 19 schools posting double-digit gains. The biggest gains were accomplished by Cliftondale Elementary School, which increased 23.3 points, and Woodland Middle School with an increase of 21.2 points.

“The results speak to the hard work of the Fulton County Schools community," Superintendent Mike Looney said. "I am proud to be associated with this Board and an exceedingly focused, talented and caring team and look forward to continuing this kind of progress.”

The number of schools with scores below 60 also improved with a total in 2019 down to only six schools from a high of 25 in 2015 and 15 last year. Significantly, eight of nine Fulton County Schools on the Turnaround Eligible List for 2018 made gains in their 2019 CCRPI scores.

While not a scored component within CCRPI, the Georgia Department of Education 2019 Climate Star ratings also released today showed significant improvements. The Climate Star rating reflects the school’s climate using data from various surveys, student disciple data and attendance records. This year’s data show 42 Fulton County Schools earned a 5 out of 5-star rating. In total, 85 schools, or 80 percent of Fulton schools, earned either a 4- or 5-star rating.

“I am excited to see the 5-star climate rankings across our district," said Linda Bryant, School Board President. "The Board believes that a great school culture is foundational to increasing student achievement."
