Fulton Science Academy Makes Impressive Run at Largest Chess Tournament in History

FSA Students Bring Home Numerous Trophies after SuperNationals VI, the Largest Rated Chess Tournament in History.

Fulton Science Academy Private School was very well represented at SuperNationals VI, the largest rated chess tournament in history! The tournament was held in Nashville, TN, on May 11-14. A total of 5,577 scholastic chess players participated from all over the country.

The following FSA students attended this historic event: Vishal B., Pranav D., Varun G., Christopher G., Rithvik K., Dheemant P., Kovid P., Alexander R., Bhavin S., Arnav S., and Archer W.

The main tournament was comprised of seven rounds, G90 D5. This means that each student received a total of 90 minutes total on his/her clock, plus a 5-second delay for each move.

In addition to the main event, there were also some very competitive blitz and bughouse tournaments, as well as a family and friends tournament on Saturday.

The tournament included many different guest Grand Masters conducting simuls with the young chess players, as well as fun booths to try chess puzzles and other activities.

Former world champion Garry Kasparov appeared at a book signing for his new book, Kasparov and Deep Blue, and there were several impromptu games of “wall ball”, soccer, and bughouse in between the rounds.

FSA has had a strong chess season and looks forward another great year during the 2017-18 school year.
