Fulton Science Academy Students To Vote In Mock National Election

ALPHARETTA, GA -- On Tuesday, Nov. 1, more than 170 elementary students at Fulton Science Academy Private School will make their mark on history as they participate for the first time in the largest nationwide student mock presidential election.

“Every US citizen, especially school-aged children, should understand the responsibilities that come with our natural rights and liberties, including the right to vote in this mock election," said organizer and first-grade teacher Melissa Whitlock. "Fulton Science Academy, working in cooperation with Studies Weekly and the Responsibility Foundation, will provide students in kindergarten through third grade with a chance to cast their personal vote for the next President of the United States. They are so excited about this opportunity, and with good reason.”

For weeks now, some of Fulton Science Academy’s youngest students have been learning about this year’s candidates using age-appropriate informational curriculum provided by Studies Weekly. Through these lessons, students learn about civic responsibility and gain an appreciation for the democratic process that governs our nation.

The event has been met with rave reviews, including positive remarks from Roswell Republican State Senator John Albers.

“The foundation of our country is freedom and liberty for which the greatest expression is voting," Albers said. "I am thrilled to see Fulton Science Academy conducting this mock election to get students involved and informed.”

To mimic an actual voting center, Fulton Science Academy’s media center will be transformed into an actual voting center with privacy areas, IPAD voting, a voter check-in table, and even “I Voted” stickers for those who participate.

An interactive map will display red or blue to designate the leading candidate for each state with updated results reported every thirty seconds until 3 p.m.
