Habitat Accepting Applications for Home Repair Program
Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia is accepting applications for the home repair program in North Fulton.
Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia is working in North Fulton to assist low-income seniors and Honorably-discharged veterans who own and live in their homes with minor repairs, weatherization, and critical repair needs. This year alone, Habitat has assisted veterans from World War II, Vietnam, and Korea, families with disabled children, and elderly families. For years these families had been living without HVAC, with roof leaks, with unsafe ramps and steps, and with structural damage.
One particular family who was served by this program had many needs. Their home had holes in the roof in several locations, ceilings were falling down, termite damage caused floor and joist damage and exterior damage. Through the Home Repair Program, in partnership with several sponsoring agencies, businesses, and organizations, Habitat was able to complete all the needed repairs. The family now has a safe and healthy place to live which allows them to stay in their home through the remainder of their years.
Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia is accepting applications for the Home Repair Program. Applicants should own and live in their home, meet income guidelines, and have a need for home repairs including home preservation, weatherization and critical home repairs. About Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia
Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has completed 287 homes serving over 1000 family members in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend 6 educational classes and perform 200-300 sweat equity hours. Families earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat which provides them with a 30-year, no-interest loan. Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership but they also know that their lives will be changed forever. In addition to new home construction, Habitat North Central Georgia started a home repair program in 2014. To date, 20 repair projects have been completed serving veterans and seniors.
