Hanukkah 2019: Where To Celebrate Around Metro Atlanta

Hanukkah will begin Sunday evening, and lots of events will be held around Atlanta to celebrate the holiday which goes through Dec. 30.

GEORGIA — Hanukkah 2019 will begin Sunday evening and go through Dec. 30, with plenty of events and celebrations to attend during that time around Atlanta.

Many places will light Menorahs and host holiday parties for the entire family.

Menorah lighting at Avalon

On Sunday, the community is invited to join Chabad of North Fulton in celebrating the start of Hanukkah with the third-annual Menorah Lighting at Avalon. From 5 to 6 p.m., guests can experience a traditional Menorah lighting ceremony, as well as holiday refreshments, music and exciting entertainment for all ages.

“Avalon is one of the North Fulton community’s most beloved gathering places, and we can’t think of a better destination to bring our traditions to life each year,” said Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz, director of Chabad of North Fulton. “We look forward to once again shining a light on Chanukah with this cherished celebration at Avalon.”

The Menorah lighting kicks off Hanukkah, an eight-day wintertime festival of lights. This free community event will take place in Avalon’s Boulevard East Courtyard, 800 Avalon Blvd., located in front of Jeni’s Ice Creams. For more information, visit experienceavalon.com/events. Celebrate Hanukkah in Milton/Crabapple

Celebrate Hanukkah at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 at the City of Milton's Broadwell Pavilion, 12615 Broadwell Rd. There will be a grand menorah lighting, Hanukkah snacks, kids entertainment, music and fun. For more information, call 770-410-9000 or visit jewishmilton.com.

Chanukah at the Heart of Roswell Park

A free grand menorah lighting will take place at 5 p.m. on Dec. 26 in Roswell at 925 Canton St. There will be Hanukkah sing-a-longs, holiday treats for kids, latkes, music, and free dreidels for all. For more information, call 770-410-9000 or visit jewishroswell.com.

Hanukkah with the Hawks

Join us for a fun reunion night with the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the State Farm Arena vs. the Utah Jazz. Tickets are $30 and include $10 food voucher. The event is open to the community, and registration is online.

Menorah Lighting on Ponce

On Dec. 23, join Ponce City Market and Chabad Intown for a free traditional menorah lighting ceremony on the Yard beginning at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will celebrate the Festival of Lights with an evening of food and drinks, activities for the kids and live music.

Intown Hanukkah Party at Chabad Intown

From 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 25, Chabad Intown will host a fun-filled Hanukkah party on the Beltline with food, entertainment, holiday games, creative crafts and more. Chabad Intown, 730 Ponce de Leon Place NE, Atlanta, GA 30306, will also host three nights of menorah lighting and family fun. Those will be at:

  • Virginia Highlands at North Highland Park - Dec. 22, 4 p.m.
  • Ponce City Market at The Yard - Dec. 23, 6:30 p.m.
  • Decatur Square - Dec. 29, 4 p.m.

Menorah Lighting on the Glover Park Stage at Marietta Square

Celebrate Hanukkah with a Menorah lighting on the Glover Park Stage at Marietta Square, 50 Park Sq, Marietta, by Congregation Ner Tamid of Marietta/ West Cobb on Dec. 28 (rain date Dec. 29) from 6:30-7:30 p.m., led by Rabbi Joseph Prass. The event will feature Hanukkah music and dancing by the Smyrna Team Dancers, books from PJ Library, free hot chocolate, and gift card raffle.

Seven children will be randomly selected to light the menorah, and will also receive gifts cards for Bubble Tea.

All are welcome. Parking is available on local streets or the municipal garage on Cherokee Street.

Decatur Menorah Lighting

Join Chabad in Celebrating Chanukah at the annual Menorah lighting in Decatur Square at 4-7 p.m. on Dec. 29. Enjoy music, entertainment, dreidels, doughnuts, hot latkes, gelt drop and more.

Festival of Lights in Sandy Springs

PJ Library and Ready Set Fun! are offering an event for families with young children at 4 p.m. on Sundayat Ready Set Fun!, 6331 Roswell Rd., in Sandy Springs. The price is $10 per child and there will be latkes, menorah lightning, jelly doughnuts, dreidels, and fun for the family. RSVP at readysetfun.com.

Community Menorah Lighting

A Community Menorah Lighting sponsored by Temple Beth David will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday on the Snellville Town Green, 2342 Oak Rd. Join TBD's Rabbi Jesse Charyn for the first night of Hanukkah with a Menorah Lighting Celebration. There will be music, jelly-filled donuts (sufganiyot), hot chocolate, and the gold-foil 'coins' (gelt) customary during this holiday. Gather together with neighbors, friends, and family for this joyous community affair.
