Haynes Bridge Middle, Barnes & Noble Team Up To Promote Summer Reading
All students were able to shop, within a given budget, and purchase up to 5 books to support reading through the end of July!

From Haynes Bridge MS: From Did you have trouble convincing your middle-schooler to read this summer? Haynes Bridge Middle School found a great solution, and it even included an outdoor hike!
During the first week of summer break, 40 students and 10 staff members met at the school for a 3-mile roundtrip trek to Barnes and Noble. The trip was a collaboration between the school and the major bookstore chain to help promote daily reading for all students. All students were able to shop, within a given budget, and purchase up to 5 books to support reading through the end of July!
Staff members from Barnes and Noble, including a former Haynes Bridge Middle School student, oriented the students to the bookstore, and provided assistance in matching the student to their interests and Lexile levels. The school uses Lexile levels as the numeric representation of a student’s reading ability and text readability.
